Welcome: "Welcome to Electoral Vote Predictor 2004, which tracks the electoral vote (EV) state by state. In 2000, Al Gore won the popular vote by over half a million votes but George Bush won the electoral vote by 5 votes and became president. Thus watching the electoral vote is more important than watching the national polls. This website is dedicated to tracking the electoral vote by examining the state-by-state polls. As new state polls are released, the maps, spreadsheets, tables, graphs, and movies will be updated. In the maps, the white states are essentially tossups and are subject to rapid fluctuations. The magic number needed to be elected is 270."

Cold Turkey - Kurt Vonnegut's take on the world today. I've always liked his stuff. After seeing Farenheit 9/11 yesterday, this seems to fit in just fine. Here's a snippet:

"Here’s what I think the truth is: We are all addicts of fossil fuels in a state of denial, about to face cold turkey.

And like so many addicts about to face cold turkey, our leaders are now committing violent crimes to get what little is left of what we’re hooked on."

Ananova - Top doc backs picking your nose and eating it: "Picking your nose and eating it is one of the best ways to stay healthy, according to a top Austrian doctor.
Innsbruck-based lung specialist Prof Dr Friedrich Bischinger said people who pick their noses with their fingers were healthy, happier and probably better in tune with their bodies."

This is such a cool commercial! - an ad for the Honda Accord wagon, from Britain. Apparently, they are only selling the wagon overseas.

Lovely weekend for the family here in Austin Texas! Nice weather. Saturday we had some kolaches for breakfast, standard weekend housecleaning, an outing for birthday presents, and then the girls and I worked on painting one of their little tables. Sunday was a fun day - one of the boys from the girls' class had a birthday party. Best part was we all got to go on a Duck Tour! Since we had a lot of people, they came and picked us all up at the house, then we drove out to the lake and splashed in and out of the water several times. The driver is an Austin Firefighter when he's not driving ducks, and was great with the kids. Let them all have a turn driving the thing when it was in the water. It is NOT a speedboat! I'll have some pictures up shortly.

Agreed, Deborah. My feelings were that it was a pretty good way to re-introduce my girls to their extended family some, and to introduce them to how we cope with the loss of loved ones. I thought our circle was really great.

On a lighter note, I would like to report to everyone that Jordan has started sleeping in undies at night! 10 days with only 1 accident! She is pretty excited. She has also learned to whistle. I don't know if Mike or anyone else remebers this, but I think it was Mike that taught me to whistle. That's how I remember it!

Hi,
Just sending greetings...it was good to see you all even though the circumstances were intertwined with feelings of loss...also felt like I gained some wisdom about the value of life that cannot come from any other experience.
Love,
Deborah

Hey, looks like it works. I have to say that Jada is probably the cutest thing ever in purple. Julie runs a close second when she wears the hat.
This is nice. Can I scan in photos, or only you?
[Steve] - anyone can scan in photos, but you'll have to send them to me to be included.
What is Post versus Post and Publish?
[Steve] - Post just saves your text to the blogger.com server. Post and Publish saves the text, then generates the HTML for the web page, and then publishes it on the website for the world to see.

Welcome to the blog! Feel free to write whatever you want. Talk about things that interest you. One of the things I have been working on is scanning in old pictures, which I want to post here. We could use the blog to help identify who the people are in the photos.

Eventually, I might even start (gasp!) paying for web hosting service (tripod is free, which is why there are the annoying ads) in which case I would also start getting more space than 15 MB, so could post a lot more photos. Right now, my complete web photo album is about 200 MB. I am working on finishing up the captions, etc, for 2002 so that I can burn some CDs for everyone.
